New CodeIgniter Library: Facebook Connect

18th May 2009

I asked all of my followers on twitter what they would like released this weekend, and the result was clear: Facebook Connect.

I’ve been playing around with Facebook Connect for quite some time, and naturally, decided to use CodeIgniter to do so. And since this is me, I figured that most people in the UK are fed up of MP’s taking so much from them this week, so here’s me ‘giving’ you something back!

For those of you who don’t know what Facebook Connect is, here’s some marketing drivel Facebook have to say about it:

Facebook Connect is the next evolution of Facebook Platform – enabling you to integrate the power of Facebook Platform into your own site. Enable your users to…

  • Seamlessly “connect” their Facebook account and information with your site
  • Connect and find their friends who also use your site
  • Share information and actions on your site with their friends on Facebook

It’s essentially a way of allowing users to login to your site, using their facebook details. Then, post things from your site to the mini-feed, invite friends to your site, and get notifications when their friends do things on your site.

I’ve got to say a big thank-you to everyone who helped me get this library ready, most are followers on twitter. You guys rock, and you’ve made this possible!

Head over to the new ‘Code’ page to download the library!
