Back in Black

It’s been quite a while since most of you have seen me around online, and there is a pretty good reason for it.

I’ve recently moved to London, which is a marvelous place. And, I’ve started a new full-time position at ‘doof‘. The whole experience of moving to London and getting used to an extremely long commute has thrown me quite a bit, and I haven’t managed to get online as often as I’d like.

I’m still using CodeIgniter, now on a daily basis at doof. But I want to get back into it, and start developing more and contributing to the community.

Since I’ve been bombarded with emails asking for them… I’ll be putting the CodeIgniter screencasts online over the next couple of days to download in quicktime movie format.

So, let me tell you a little bit about my new job then!

doof logodoof‘ is a new gaming/social network site aimed at bringing flash games and community together. The front-end is written in Adobe Flex, and the API/Gateway is written in PHP.

My job is to develop, scale, and manage servers for doof. So far it’s going really well, and quite a few people have signed up since its launch.

doof is a really great place to work, and my favourite bit: casual dress!

So, stay subscribed for future posts on the site.

  1. Hey Elliot, congrats on the new job my friend! Looking forward to hearing more about it, and about how you’re using CodeIgniter also ;)

We’ve started entire threads in the forums entitled “Where is Elliot Haughin”. You’re like Waldo now!

  2. Hey Derek!

    It’s good to feel missed

I’ve downloaded the screencasts from your server and I’m just getting them online here again.

The filepanda server will be up and running in 24 hours too (I ran out of disk space on my dedicated server!)

I’ve got some major enhancements planned for filepanda (including a much better tagging system), and I might even be releasing some of the code back to the community!

Looking forward to a major CI release (version 2.0 or 1.6 maybe?)

    Elliot

  3. Welcome back Elliot! A lot of people have been asking for your tutorials (I tried to fill the void but time seems to be a hard commodity to acquire).

1.5.5 is the expected next release, Derek made a post referencing some of what we can expect.

Might I also suggest one of the video hosting services (YouTube, Revver, etc). Some people really hate installing QuickTime (I personally just use Miro for everything).

Looking forward to seeing some of the stuff you bring to the community from your experiences and congrats on the job in London!

  6. Just a suggestion for the screencast page, but you might want to put a brief summary on there about what each is about…
